| Description: |
ECM offers NOx measurement solutions that use the NOx sensor (Type G) and/or the NTK NOx sensor. The NOx 5210 Analyzer can be supplied with: one or two NOx sensors (Type G), one or two NTK NOx sensors, or one of each type of NOx sensor. The NOx sensor (Type G) has a 20mm thread and the NTK NOx sensor has an 18mm thread.
For most applications, the NOx sensor (Type G) is recommended. In applications where NOx is to be measured near stoichiometric (i.e. near Lambda = 1) conditions, the NTK NOx sensor is recommended. Generally speaking, this means that the NOx sensor (Type G) should be used with diesel and lean-burn spark-ignition engines and the NTK NOx sensor should be used with nominally-stoichiometric, spark-ignition engines.
Both NOx sensors have a cross-sensitivity to ammonia (NH3) and both sensors are not recommended for use in rich exhaust mixtures (i.e. Lambda less than 1) although the NTK NOx sensor will give better accuracy at stoichiometric and slightly rich conditions.
Both NOx sensors come pre-calibrated and ECM offers factory re-calibration (just send the sensor to us). The NOx sensor (Type G) can either be user-calibrated using model (i.e. synthetic) gases or by comparison to a CLA NOx analyzer in an engine. The NTK NOx sensor can be user-calibrated by comparison to a CLA NOx analyzer in an engine. Calibration of the NTK NOx sensor using model gases is not recommended.
When the NTK NOx sensor is used, ECM recommends that the BTU200 sensor heater be used with it in order to minimize ensitivities due to exhaust pipe temperature changes. Additionally if 12 VDC power is used with the NTK NOx sensor, the Vboost Power Supply should be used. This raises the voltage supplied to the sensor to 24V where its temperature can be better controlled.
